Drawing at the Met
FDC-2503-A TH, Oct. 1 - Oct. 29 Hours: 10:00AM - 02:00PM 2.00 CEUs; $270.00 Course Status: Open

With an emphasis on traditional drawing techniques, students will work on location at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each session will begin with instruction in rendering figurative sculptures into two dimensions. In the afternoons, students may work on drawing projects of their choice, with individual instruction given. Students may choose to work on long drawings or several short sketches. This course is open to students at all levels. NOTE: Please bring a pad of white drawing paper (11x14") and 2B pencils to the first session. All students who sign up get a free copy of Matthew's educational DVD "Figure Drawing A layered Approach".



Drawing Workshop
ILC-2024-A Saturday Oct. 3 - Dec. 12 3.50 CEUs; $395.00 Course Status: Open

Mastering the basics is what this course is all about. Through focusing on several fundamental concepts we will examine how to simplify the difficult task of drawing with confidence. Each week, while drawing from nude and clothed models, students will begin building on a strong foundation of proportion and structure. Traditional concepts and techniques will be demonstrated and put into practice. This course can benefit students who are getting back into drawing as well as advanced students wanting to take their skill to the next level. Field trips to The Metropolitan Museum of Art will be included. NOTE: Please bring a pad of white drawing paper (18x24") and 2B pencils to the first session.



Advanced Illustration and the Marketplace
ILC-4012-A TH, Oct. 1 - Dec. 10 Hours: 06:30PM - 09:30PM 3.00 CEUs; $395.00 Course Status: Open

What makes a portfolio stand out in today's marketplace? This course will help you to assemble a unique portfolio that will enable you to earn a living as an illustrator. The first half of the course is geared toward honing picture making skills and techniques, and developing an individual work process, while creating and refining personal style. The remainder of the semester will focus on achieving a marketing strategy as we explore various directions for a career in illustration. Topics will include how to market to your target audience, how to create an online presence through a personal Web site and drive clients to that site, as well as the requisite business skills and proactive planning needed to become a professional illustrator. Students may work in the medium of their choice. NOTE: Assignments vary each semester. Please bring samples of your work to the first session.



Pre-College Portfolio Workshop
FIP-0501 Fall and Spring Only Sept. 26 - Dec. 5 Hours: 1:30 - 4:30 $400.00 Course Status: Open
10 sessions

This intensive ten week course focuses on getting a student's portfolio ready for acceptance into art college. The course covers drawing, color, composition, perspective, as well as creating finished portfolio images. The class is broken into two parts life drawing and portfolio critique. NOTE: Please bring a pad of white drawing paper (18x24") and 2B pencils to the first session. Please bring samples of your work to the first session.

Thesis Advisement

Matthew accepts a limited number of fourth year undergraduate thesis students each year in the Animation Department. Students meet with Matthew each week to work on and discuss their thesis project. Matthew is booked with six thesis students for Fall - Spring 2009 -2010.
