Wei-Ting Du
As an instructor at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan New York I find myself surrounded by many talented students. Wei-Ting Du is currently auditing my foundation drawing class. I am truly impressed with both her work ethic and talent. Watching her grow in class is amazing. Wei-Ting technically does not have to take my class. She is currently a graduate student in the Computer Art department going the extra mile trying to learn all she can while at SVA. Below are some examples of her work plus a short question and answer session.
I grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. At age 14, I came to Maryland to begin high school. I studied BA in psychology and minor in art at Carnegie Mellon University. Currently I am a MFA student in Computer Art at SVA. I have been taking art classes since I was 5. I started to learn drawing and painting with still life in 6th grade in an art studio. I first saw my talent during these art training lessons, where I observed and learned a lot from the teacher and other students.
My parents have been my major influence for my art. As engineer and accountant, they allowed me to get exposure to different fields from art, music, to sports and supported me to become a well-rounded person. As I studied more in classical art, I was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's work and became interested to learn figure drawing and paintings. and always go the extra mile, please share. Passion and patience keep me disciplined. More importantly, the motivation of learning is for myself, not for others or school. I am auditing Matt's class because I want to learn and enhance my drawing skills. I wish I had taken this class in my college freshman year, so I appreciate the time and opportunity offered here and I want to work hard to get the most out of here. Perfectionism and observation for details keep me energized to complete a piece. I see myself in one year as a drawer and animator with a master thesis piece, accumulated portfolio and demo reel that have necessary skills ready for jobs. As a well-rounded person, I see myself in three years as a 3D artist focusing in animating, while working in multiple fields such as drawing and illustrating. My dream job is to work at an animation studio, where I could combine my traditional art and digital skills together.
Thank you Matt, Wei-Ting
