means a serious artist but your site has helped me very much. Thanks so much for sharing your gift and great teaching skills. Keep up the great work!

"I would like to say that your online lessons are amazing. I have been drawing on and off for many years now locked into the same old boring drawing process, not improving much. I now feel that I have new tools and inspiration for improving my technique and process, hopefully making better drawings in the future. This is thanks to you and the online drawing tutorials.
"

I can honestly say that I have been learning more in the past month from your videos and articles than I have learned in most of my classes at the university combined. I think you have a knack for teaching practical skills for drawing. You are clear and concise, and you seem to be very eager to help others. Don't ever give up on this site! If only there were more art teachers out there like you!"

It's an invaluable resource for people like me - adults who work full-time and are unable to take traditional classes, but still truly want to learn the proper way to draw the human figure. Being able to log in whenever I have time and work at my own pace is great, and the feedback you provide is the icing on the cake."

My personal style has changed in many ways since my art school days, however one thing never changes, and that is the rock solid foundation in skills that you are encouraging us to develop. Wei-Ting Du
As an instructor at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan New York I find myself surrounded by many talented students. Wei-Ting Du is currently auditing my foundation drawing class. I am truly impressed with both her work ethic and talent. Watching her grow in class is amazing. Wei-Ting technically does not have to take my class. She is currently a graduate student in the Computer Art department going the extra mile trying to learn all she can while at SVA. Below are some examples of her work plus a short question and answer session.
This was a project Wei-Ting worked on with six other students at the School of Visual Arts.
Tell us about where you grew up.
I grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. At age 14, I came to Maryland to begin high school. I studied BA in psychology and minor in art at Carnegie Mellon University. Currently I am a MFA student in Computer Art at SVA.
You are so talented at a young age, when did you start to draw? When did you first see your talent?
I have been taking art classes since I was 5. I started to learn drawing and painting with still life in 6th grade in an art studio. I first saw my talent during these art training lessons, where I observed and learned a lot from the teacher and other students.
Who has been your major influence? What inspires you?
My parents have been my major influence for my art. As engineer and accountant, they allowed me to get exposure to different fields from art, music, to sports and supported me to become a well-rounded person. As I studied more in classical art, I was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's work and became interested to learn figure drawing and paintings.
Okay here is the big question, how have you become so disciplined? Where do find the energy to do all that you do. I understand that you do not have to take my class, however you work the hardest
and always go the extra mile, please share.
Passion and patience keep me disciplined. More importantly, the motivation of learning is for myself, not for others or school. I am auditing Matt's class because I want to learn and enhance my drawing skills. I wish I had taken this class in my college freshman year, so I appreciate the time and opportunity offered here and I want to work hard to get the most out of here. Perfectionism and observation for details keep me energized to complete a piece.
Where do you see yourself in one year?
I see myself in one year as a drawer and animator with a master thesis piece, accumulated portfolio and demo reel that have necessary skills ready for jobs.
Where do you see yourself in three years, what is your dream job? Can you see yourself working in multiple fields, illustration, animation etc?
As a well-rounded person, I see myself in three years as a 3D artist focusing in animating, while working in multiple fields such as drawing and illustrating. My dream job is to work at an animation studio, where I could combine my traditional art and digital skills together.
Thank you Wei-Ting for your time with this. Especially with answering these questions during your Thanksgiving break.
Thank you Matt, Wei-Ting
